Pedagogical concept
Concept kindergarten (3 - 6 years)
Children's World is following the Montessori philosophy alongside other pedagogical principles and focuses on the Swiss Kindergarten curriculum.
Bilingualism
In the classrooms there are both German and English speaking teachers who communicate solely in their own language. This ensures that both languages are applied equally during lessons, songs, games and conversations.
Montessori Method
The modern education concept of Maria Montessori corresponds developmentally with the child's needs. It is based on the knowledge that children go through so-called "sensitive periods" during which they are especially interested in and receptive to specific issues.
Weekly programme - mornings
Montessori independent work
The morning starts with Montessori independent work approx. 2 to 2.5 hours followed by a play break outside.
The free selection of work activities allow the child to choose materials, which fulfil the child and is in accordance with their current development needs. When all elements of this concept are optimally coordinated, a polarisation of attention can often be observed with the child fully concentrated in the selceted material. "Polarisation of attention" is how Maria Montessori describes the deepest concentration of the child, usually in self-determined learning situations. These moments allow accelerated learning success: In addition energies are utilized rather than lost. Instead of tiredness, the child experiences a feeling of deepest satisfaction.
The classes of mixed age groups ensure interaction among classmates at a similar level of development whilst also avoiding over burdening or under-stimulating the children.
Staff
In the Montessori programme the teacher understands the necessity of being a reserved but conscientious observer. The teacher only intervenes when necessary.
Prepared environment
The specially prepared environment is continually adapted according to the observations of the teachers to ensure that the children have constant acess to materials, which correspond to their current level of development, awaken the interest and support the learning stages of the child.
Weekly programme - afternoons
In the afternoons children enjoy different activities such as yoga, cooking lessons, an introduction in chinese culture, gym lessons, music & theatre and art & craft. The contents of the lessons are based on the objectives of the curriculum of the corresponding Canton.
* the programme is subject to change according to availability and interest
Forest day
Once a week children will spend their day out in the forest. A stay in the forest allows the children a variety of experiences with positive effects on body perception. Curiosity and an open mind lead to an abundance of sensory experiences. Different sounds and the unfamiliar surroundings stimulate the childs imagination and creativity. The environment evokes independence and self-discovery which correspond to the main concept of our principles within the Montessori philosophy.
